Step 2: Complete Your Education

Complete the required 1,200 hours of Master Esthetics education. Throughout your program, you'll build your technical skills, gain real client experience, and develop the confidence to succeed in the beauty industry.

Step 3: Pass Your State Board Exams

Once you've completed your education, you'll take the required Utah licensing examinations. Your school will guide you through the process and verify your completed hours.

Step 4: Apply for Your Utah License

After successfully passing your exams, submit your application to the Utah Division of Occupational and Professional Licensing (DOPL). Once your license is issued, you're officially a licensed Master Esthetician.

Who Oversees Esthetics Licensing in Utah?

All esthetics licenses in Utah are regulated by the Utah Division of Professional Licensing (DOPL). Before you can legally practice esthetics, you'll need to complete an approved education program, meet the state's training requirements, pass the required licensing examinations, and apply for your license through DOPL.

Utah Esthetics License Options

Utah now offers several pathways depending on the type of beauty career you want to pursue.

Basic Esthetics Permit

This entry-level permit focuses on foundational skincare and basic esthetics services. Under recent legislation, this pathway was created for students seeking entry into the profession with fewer required hours than the traditional esthetics license.

Lash & Brow Technician License

If your passion is lash extensions, lash lifts, brow laminations, brow tinting, facial waxing, and related services, Utah now offers a dedicated Eyelash and Eyebrow Technician license requiring 270 hours of education.

Master Esthetician License

If your goal is to perform advanced skincare treatments and expand your career opportunities, becoming a Master Esthetician is one of the most comprehensive education paths available.

Students who are new to esthetics generally complete a 1,200-hour Master Esthetics program. Those who already hold qualifying Utah licenses may be eligible to complete an additional 600-hour Master Esthetics curriculum to meet the state's requirements.
